Intuitive Painting

Description: I’ll demonstrate how to prepare the canvas, mix colors using a limited palette and begin a painting using no references to guide composition and color choices. Explore the process of editing and structuring a painting using an innate response with your own “toolbox” of art experiences and skills rather than copying an image.

Time: 10 am – 12 pm
Location: 166 Main Street Greenwich, NY 12834
Maximum Number: 10

Cost: $20

Sight-Size in Landscape Painting

Description: I will demonstrate how I set up my canvas in the field so that it aligns with the scene, and be the same size, one next to the other, when viewed from one spot (the viewpoint). This allows a one to one comparison with the scene.  Broad areas of light and dark are painted in quickly, the work proceeds as a series of corrections that together create an accurate depiction of the scene.

Following this I’ll discuss how I choose scenes, and how meaning is imparted from those choices. Questions will be encouraged.   A still life will replace an outdoor landscape in the case of rain.
